In an interview with a Danish channel, Megadeth bassist Dave Ellefson spoke about the origin of the band's sound and its evolution to this day, explaining that Megadeth's uniqueness comes from its frontman, Dave Mustaine.
Commenting on Megadeth's current lineup, Ellefson said that the band's core essence is the balance between him and Mustaine, who function like Yin and Yang. The bassist then said that Kiko Loureiro brought the same quality:
"Megadeth is definitely all about Dave's charisma, his riffs, and his singing. We were talking the other day about how there are great vocalists, and there are guys who grab the microphone with conviction and scare people, and that's what Dave does. Vocal power isn't as important as conviction, and I learned that as soon as I met Dave. He had conviction. And I think I'm the Yin to the Yang. I'm the balance of that. And every band needs that. You need to have balance because harmony comes from there.".
And now with Kiko Loureiro joining, I think we have a real team. I remember when we finished 'Dystopia,' Dave said, 'Man, I'm so happy Kiko's here. I feel like I have a real partner on guitar.' I grew up listening to guitar duos. Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Kiss – and I feel like Megadeth has that real partnership now.”
