Dave Mustaine has written eight songs for the new Megadeth album

Mustaine said he has already written eight songs, but intends to write 12 or 13 in total

Dave Mustaine spoke with Music Radar Megadeth album . He said he has written eight songs so far.

“Whenever I’m home, I work on new music from ten in the morning until seven at night,” he said. “My co-producer Chris Rakestraw Dystopia team , has been helping me with pre-production. I have about eight songs and one of them is everyone’s favorite… Which is great. Which doesn’t mean I only have one good song so far. [Laughs] Let’s just say that when I have that first song that gets everyone excited, it means I’m on the path to making a great album.”

He continued, “We’re going to do about 13 or 13 songs this time. My contract says I should only do eight per album, but I can’t do that. It feels like cheating,” he explained.

“When I grew up listening to vinyl, it was easier to buy a record and be happy with 45 minutes of music. When the digital world came along, that paradigm changed – you need so much more. People aren’t satisfied and they’re constantly fast-forwarding. So now we know we have a good start. This new material is only going to get better and better…”

Megadeth's next album will be the first with drummer Dirk Verbeuren , who joined the band three years ago.
