Edu Falaschi shuts down a power metal hater: "I loved the album and got angry at myself"

Speaking about musical prejudice, Falaschi recounted a curious reaction from a new fan to 'Vera Cruz'

Throughout his career, Edu Falaschi has never abandoned the influence of Brazilian music. And it was no different in Vera Cruz (2021), the singer's first solo album, a record that even pleased power metal haters.

During an interview with The Wikimetal Happy Hour , the vocalist was asked about metal's stance of distancing itself from other musical styles, despite the success of bands like Sepultura and Angra in incorporating Brazilian rhythms into their music – and he recounted a curious situation with a listener.

“I think everyone does what they want, I think in some bands, [this mix] doesn’t suit the guy,” he pondered before playing a snippet of MPB (Brazilian Popular Music), a taste he inherited from his father since childhood. “I think it has to be natural, there’s no point in saying ‘Oh, I’m going to put Brazilian stuff in because it will attract attention abroad,’ I don’t see much advantage in that.”.

Commenting on the segment of the audience that prides itself on only listening to metal, Falaschi sees no problem with it, although he believes it's "not ideal" when building a repertoire, especially for musicians.

“You have to respect it. If someone only likes metal, that’s fine, everyone is different. There are guys who only like samba and hate metal. There are people who are prejudiced against rock; I know a lot of people who say, ‘Oh, is that noisy stuff?’ They have no idea,” he continued. “You can’t generalize; the most important thing is to do what you like.”.

The important thing in life, Falaschi argues, is not to limit yourself for silly reasons. “I think like this: life is too short. This pandemic showed that to many people. We don't have to have rules for anything, especially in terms of culture. Want to love? Love! Don't want to listen? Don't listen! Life has to be simple,” he said.

Falaschi also recounted a message he received from a power metal hater. “I don’t like power metal, but I listened to your album and loved it, I went crazy. And then I got angry at myself because I couldn’t like that,” the new fan said. “How could I not like it? I thought it was cool that he opened up, but there are no rules for anything,” the vocalist commented humorously.
