Eddie Van Halen was honored last Monday, the 11th, with a memorial in the city of Pasadena, in the United States.
In a ceremony led by Mayor Victor Gordo , a plaque was installed in front of the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, the venue where Eddie has played more than ten times . During the event, Victor recalled working at a Mexican restaurant in the city as a young man and having the opportunity to serve the band. He said he felt "honored" to have served Eddie.
The funds to install the plaque were raised by the group Pasadena4VanHalen , led by Randa Schmalfeld and Julie Kimura , who raised $4,000. The goal was $3,000. The pair initially wanted the Pasadena city council to honor the musician by naming a city location after him. Some local residents created a petition to name a city park in Eddie's honor.
Eddie Van Halen was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 1955, but in the 1960s he moved to the United States with his family and lived in Pasadena, a place that ended up serving as the base for the band Van Halen.
