Red Hot Chili Peppers released the song "Eddie" this Friday, the 23rd, as a tribute to the late guitarist Eddie Van Halen . The track is part of the album Return Of The Dream Canteen , which will be released on October 14th.

“Eddie” is about Eddie Van Halen’s days playing guitar on the Sunset Strip in California. According to vocalist Anthony Kiedis , the song is a plea for people not to dwell on the guitarist’s death, but rather on how he lived his life.

“Sometimes we don’t realize how deeply connected and affected we feel by an artist until they die. Eddie Van Halen was one of a kind. The day after his death, Flea showed up for rehearsals with a moving bass line. John , Chad , and I started playing over it, and before long a song in his memory emerged. It felt good to feel the sadness and care so much about someone who gave so much to our lives,” Kiedis reflects Facebook post .

'Return Of The Dream Canteen'

For the first time in their history, the Red Hot Chili Peppers will release two albums in the same year.

The band announced their new album, Return Of The Dream Canteen , which will be released just six months after the acclaimed Unlimited Love John Frusciante 's return to the band and was a sales success.

“We went in search of ourselves as the band we somehow always were. Just for fun, we jammed and learned some old songs. A short time later we began the mysterious process of building new music. A beautiful piece of chemistry that had brought us together hundreds of times along the way,” the group said about the new album in a statement.

Before “Eddie”, the Red Hot Chili Peppers released the single “Tippa My Tongue” , which you can check out in the player below:
