King joined Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1972
Ed King , guitarist for Lynyrd Skynyrd, died last Wednesday, the 22nd, in Nashville, United States. He was 68 years old and although the cause of death has not been released, he was recently hospitalized due to lung cancer.
A message on Facebook confirmed the death: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ed King, who passed away at his home in Nashville on August 22, 2018. We thank his many friends and fans for their love and support of Ed throughout his life and career.”.
Born in California, King was a founding member of the band Strawberry Alarm Clock in the 1960s, and in 1972 he joined Lynyrd Skynyrd, first as a bassist and then as a guitarist. He played on the band's first three albums and co-wrote one of their biggest hits, "Sweet Home Alabama".
With a 40-year career and over 60 albums, the band is doing its farewell tour entitled Last Of The Street Survivors Farewell Tour .
