Drowned released their fourth and final single before the release of the album Recipe of Hate . In “Doctor Horror Medical Group”, the Minas Gerais-based death and thrash metal band shows that the fictional horrors created by Dr. Frankenstein, Mary Shelley , are nothing compared to the allegations made by the COVID-19 Parliamentary Inquiry Commission in Brazil.
The song inspired an animation "based on surreal facts," created by vocalist Fernando Lima , which depicts a bloody hospital where images of denialist politicians and a Jesus Christ of chloroquine adorn the corridors while patients are treated by Doctors Little Flu and Ozone.
Although not explicitly mentioned in the song, the events described correspond to the accusations against hospitals affiliated with the Prevent Senior health plan. According to data from the São Paulo City Council , the health insurance company is accused of underreporting the number of Covid-19 cases and deaths, and of allegedly requiring the prescription and use of medications without proven scientific efficacy against the disease.
Eduardo Parrillo (or Eduardo Parras), one of the company's partners, was also the vocalist for the metal band Armored Dawn , which disbanded after the allegations. Learn more here .
