Dropkick Murphys releases a moving version of the protest anthem “We Shall Overcome”

The band also released an extended version of their latest album, 'Turn Up That Dial'

To celebrate St. Patrick's Day, Dropkick Murphys Pete Seeger 's song "We Shall Overcome" this Thursday, the 17th, available in Dolby Atmos and Stereo audio.

The song in question is deeply intertwined with American history. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, it became an anthem of the American Civil Rights Movement, just as it had been used as a protest song in the earlier labor movement. The message perfectly aligns with the Dropkick Murphys, who have always championed the working class and the oppressed.

“I’ve always found this protest song so powerful, as we all know from its importance in the civil and labor rights movements, but what I love most is its positivity. The message of hope is needed now more than ever,” says Dropkick Murphys founder and co-vocalist Ken Casey in a statement. “Also, nobody had done a loud and powerful rock version – so it just had to happen!”

The release was accompanied by a lyric video that intersperses images of the band with a montage of historical photos of American protest movements.

This Friday, the 18th, Dropkick Murphys releases a digital-only expanded edition of their album Turn Up That Dial , which will be available in Dolby Atmos, Stereo, and Three-Dimensional mixes. The expanded album features three bonus tracks, including “We Shall Overcome” and the previously released B-sides, the cover songs “James Connolly” and “The Bonny”. Listen here.
