Dream Theater announced this Thursday, the 9th, the cancellation of the Parasomnia in Europe and the United Kingdom.
Without giving further explanation, the band announced the decision through a statement on social media and expressed hopes of returning during the next tour cycle, which should take place "in 2027 or 2028".
“We know we promised to return in 2026 with the full Parasomnia , but unfortunately, sometimes plans change,” the statement reads. “After much discussion, following two European legs of our 40th anniversary tour in 2024 and 2025 (as well as tours in Europe in the two previous years, 2022 and 2023), we have made the difficult decision to postpone our return to Europe/the UK until 2026.”
Even without explanations for the cancellation, Dream Theater encouraged European fans to travel to the United States to enjoy the end of the tour. “We are currently in the last 3 weeks of our Parasomnia / A Change Of Seasons in the US, so there’s still time to come to the United States to see this show if you want… it’s truly an amazing show! And if we can’t bring it to you, at least we wanted to let you know so you have the option of coming to us to see it.”
The invitation to tour the United States did not please the band's fans. In the comments of the post, one internet user wrote, "I understand that it's not possible to go to Europe/UK, but asking fans to travel to the US now sounds a bit insensitive (considering the expenses and the socio-political scenario)," while another commented: "Change of plans: now they can open for Rush in 2026."
Mike Portnoy's return to Dream Theater.
The Parasomnia Mike Portnoy 's return to Dream Theater , participating in an album for the first time in 16 years.
The band's sixteenth studio album was produced by guitarist John Petrucci , conceived by James "Jimmy T" Meslin , and mixed by Andy Sneap .
During an interview with Marcelo Vieira and Matheus Ribeiro , Portnoy stated that the new album will be a continuation of Black Clouds & Silver Linings (2009).
“To be honest, I think it picks up exactly where Black Clouds left off. There’s a certain style that the five of us have when we write together. And if you listen to the album from that 1999 lineup, [Metropolis Pt. 2:] Scenes From A Memory , up to Black Clouds & Silver Linings , if you look at that sequence of five or six albums, that’s the sound and style of those five people.”
Mike Portnoy officially returned to Dream Theater in October 2023 , after more than a decade away from the band. At the time, he stated that he was "overflowing with joy" to be "returning home" and reuniting with his "brothers."
