Dream Theater is probably the greatest exponent of progressive metal in the world. The band, formed in the 1980s in Long Island, New York, by then Berklee College of Music students John Petrucci, John Myung, and Mike Portnoy , first came to Brazil during the tour for their 1997 Falling Into Infinity

The musicians have already played 35 times in Brazil. However, the last time they played with the classic lineup — John Petrucci (guitar), Myung (bass), Portnoy (drums), James LaBrie (vocals), and Jordan Rudess (keyboards) — was in December 2010, when the band toured Porto Alegre, Curitiba, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro. In 2011, Portnoy left his position as the band's drummer, being replaced by the also excellent Mike Mangini .

The band's last performance in Brazil was closing out Metal Day at the Rock In Rio in 2022.

Although it has been two years since the band last came to the country, fans couldn't be happier, because on October 25, 2023, they announced the return of Mike Portnoy to the band after 14 years and the departure of Mangini. On October 9, 2024, the band's 16th studio album, Parasomnia , was announced, definitively marking the return of the classic lineup.

Furthermore, they also announced this year the 40th Anniversary Tour , which will visit several cities around the world, including Belo Horizonte on December 10th at the BeFly Arena.

The show is being produced by Liberation MC , which has been bringing major bands to the country for some time now. Tickets can be purchased at Fastix.

In addition to Belo Horizonte, the band will also perform in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Curitiba, and Porto Alegre.

Dream Theater's likely setlist for upcoming shows can be based on the band's recent performances. While it may vary, here's a suggestion based on recent setlists, considering the band often plays a mix of classics and tracks from their most recent albums:

  1. Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper
  2. Act I: Scene Two: Overture 1928
  3. Act I: Scene Two: II. Strange Déjà Vu
