The musician left the band in 1964 and was replaced by Keith Moon
Doug Sandom , former drummer for The Who , has died at the age of 89. The news was confirmed by the band through their social media.
Sandom was the drummer for the British group between 1962 and 1964, preceding Keith Moon , when they were still called The Detours . They soon changed their name to The Who upon discovering that a band already existed with that name.
In 1964, the group auditioned for Fontana Records and were rejected. The label's producer at the time said he didn't like how Doug played and suggested the band fire him. Pete Townshend and Helmut Gordon , The Who's manager, agreed and removed him from the band.
Upon leaving the group, Sandom said he wasn't as ambitious as the other band members and that he didn't get along with Townshend. "I was a few years older than him and he thought I had to leave more or less because of that. I thought I was doing well with the band."
Rest in peace, Doug Sandom.
