Donald Trump has confirmed that he will not attend Super Bowl 2026 , scheduled for February 8th in Santa Clara, California, citing his opposition to the artists chosen for the halftime show.
During an interview with the New York Post , the President of the United States expressed strong displeasure with the choice of artists who will perform at the event: Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny , responsible for the halftime show, and the band Green Day , who will open the game .
"I'm against them. I think it's a terrible choice. All it does is sow hatred. Terrible," Trump said.
However, Trump stressed that the distance to Levi's Stadium was the deciding factor in not attending the game. Although his comments generated political and cultural repercussions on social media and in the press. "It's too far. I would go. I have a lot of Super Bowl experience. They like me," Trump said.
Both Bad Bunny and Green Day have publicly positioned themselves against the US president at different times during his administration. In one of his most recent statements, Billie Joe Armstrong , the vocalist of Green Day, harshly criticized the administration after the shootings by ICE agents in Minneapolis. During their show in Belgium on July 4th, Independence Day in the United States, Green Day opened with "American Idiot," adapting the lyrics to criticize the president and his MAGA (Make America Great Again) : "I'm not part of the MAGA agenda" (instead of "I'm not a part of a redneck agenda") – something the band has been doing for several years. The vocalist also led the chants of "fuck Donald Trump."
