Dolly Parton debut rock album, Rockstar , last Friday, the 16th . One of them, "Bygones," features Rob Halford of Judas Priest , while the other is a cover of "Magic Man" by Heart Ann Wilson herself .
Dolly made the decision to make a rock album after being nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame . At the time, the singer understood the award to be only for rock musicians and even refused her nomination because she had never been part of the genre. She reversed her decision after receiving more information about the organization.
In addition to the illustrious participation of Rob Halford, the new track “Bygones” also features bassist Nikki Sixx and guitarist John 5 , both from Mötley Crüe . In a statement, Dolly Parton said that this is one of her favorite songs on the album and that Rob Halford himself is one of her favorite artists “of all time.”
Regarding the cover of “Magic Man” with Ann Wilson, Dolly commented: “Nobody can sing better than Ann, but I gave it my best shot and we added some verses that weren’t in the original version. We wanted to have some things that felt like our own. Thank you, Nancy, for letting me take your place on this song. I hope I made you both proud.”
