Dirk Verbeuren

Dirk Verbeuren reveals which Megadeth songs are the most difficult to play.

The drummer listed five tracks.

In an interview with Decibel , the Megadeth drummer talks about the challenges of being in the band.

Dirk Verdearen said that in order to play with Megadeth, he needed to listen carefully to all the albums to learn the various drumming styles from different eras and musicians.

“For example, Dystopia has this futuristic energy. Whereas the first albums are more rock and roll and groove.”

He also listed the five most difficult songs to play. Check out the list below:

5. “The Threat is Real” (
Dystopia ) “People will say 'oh but this song is simple to play', but it's actually not. (…) Sure, when you listen to it superficially it's simple, but there are layers to the track that aren't as easy as they seem.”

4. “Holy Wars” (
Rust in Peace ) “Some of Nick Menza’s songs are tricky. Like ‘Holy Wars.’ It’s a long song with several parts. And also, the live arrangement is difficult to get right.”

3. “Sweating Bullets” (
Countdown to Extinction ) “I always have to pay attention to this song. Megadeth has a bit of a groovy sound. I already knew Megadeth, but when you play their songs, it’s a whole other level of appreciation.”

2. “Mechanix” (
Killing Is My Business… and Business Is Good! ) “I don’t know how to describe it, but I really needed to concentrate to get that groove exactly as it is on the album.”

1. “Wake Up Dead” (
Peace Sells… but Who's Buying? ) “The first song that comes to mind is 'Wake Up Dead,' which is one of my favorite songs to play. It's very technical because Gar, the drummer for Megadeth on the first two albums, had a unique approach, mixing Rock and Jazz.”
