Dio Disciples will release their first album

Dio Disciples is a tribute band to Ronnie James Dio

The band Dio Disciples, a tribute to the late Ronnie James Dio and supported by the singer's widow, Wendy Dio, is about to sign a contract with BMG to release its first album.

The band consists of musicians who played with Dio, and vocalists Tim 'Ripper' Owens, formerly of Judas Priest, and Oni Logan of Lynch Mob, as well as a hologram of Dio. Some of their recent shows have also included Joe Retta.

Billed as a "celebration of the music and legacy of the world's greatest singer ," Dio Disciples has been touring, playing Dio's greatest hits.

Years ago, guitarist Craig Goldy said the band planned to start working on original music, but only this year was the album confirmed by Dio's widow : "We're about to sign a contract with BMG for them to start making a new album ." Confirming that the debut album would include "all new material ," Wendy said that the band members had already written about five songs and were "very excited" about the opportunity.

The Dio Disciples album does not yet have a release date.
