In an interview with Metal Hammer , Dino Cazares spoke about the period he spent away from Fear Factory , between 2002 and 2009. The guitarist recalled his confusion upon learning he was out of the band and blamed vocalist Burton C. Bell for not wanting to play with him, but stated that "after six months" he felt "free".

“I started to notice that I was stuck in the Fear Factory mold. Being out of the band allowed me to do things that had been on the back burner,” said Cazares. “I toured with Brujeria , created Asesino , participated in Roadrunner United , and started Divine Heresy . All of this in seven years.”

Dino also mentioned one of the Fear Factory albums made without him, stating that Transgression (2005) was an “experiment that didn’t work” and that this made him feel he needed to “bring the heaviness back” when he returned to the band to make Mechanize . Recently, Fear Factory released their new album Aggression Continuum , their first since Burton C. Bell’s departure .

At the time, Bell stated that he was " drained " by the lawsuits involving the rights to the Fear Factory name and blamed "egos" and "greed" not only on the band members but also on the lawyers involved. In his conversation with Metal Hammer , Dino Cazares spoke about his disagreements with the former vocalist as a positive thing.

“Sometimes, two personalities create a lot of friction, and that friction creates beauty. I believe the friction we had created great music – some of the best I’ve ever written,” the guitarist stated. “Opposites attract. I’ve learned to deal with that over the years, and I continue to do so now.”
