Meat Loaf , one of the most successful rock singers in history, has died at the age of 74. The information was published on the artist's official page, and the cause of death was not disclosed.
“Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight, surrounded by his wife Deborah, daughters Pearl and Amanda, and close friends,” the statement . “We know how much he meant to so many of you and truly appreciate all the love and support as we go through this time of mourning the loss of such an inspiring artist and a beautiful man. We appreciate your understanding of our need for privacy at this time.”
Born Michael Lee Aday in Texas, USA, the artist released 12 studio albums throughout his career, the last being Braver Than We Are (2016). In addition to being a musician, Meat Loaf was also an actor and appeared in 65 films, with The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) and Fight Club (1999) among the highlights.
Released in 1977, Meat Loaf's second album Bat Out of Hell , became a landmark in rock and roll and is among the best-selling albums of all time, with an estimated 43 million copies sold worldwide.
The album is on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of 200 definitive albums and on Rolling Stone .
