Lead singer talks about new album
Sepultura vocalist Derrick Green gave an interview to an American radio station in which he spoke about the evolution of sound and recording techniques, and how he misses the analog process:
“I think the sound of analog is something that… maybe the average person doesn’t hear the difference. But as an artist, sound is everything, and for me, I miss the sound of analog. I think it’s more practical to use Pro Tools; it’s faster to record, you record things multiple times, or you can do things you’ve never done before without having to worry about the cost of a day in the studio. It’s very expensive to work in analog.”
I think in today's digital age, you can hear a lot more artists because people can do things at home that they couldn't do before. And I think that's really cool – the fact that you can hear new music, new sounds from artists who wouldn't have the means to do it, but they can do it without a studio and all that. It's great to have this technology to do things at home. So that's the difference in terms of time, money, and sound. I think it loses a little bit because digitally it's harder to capture that analog sound. It's impossible, I think. But you have the good and the bad. There are two sides to it.”
