In an interview on The Razor's Edge podcast , Sepultura vocalist Derrick Green commented on the sudden departure of drummer Eloy Casagrande in February 2024. The American musician revealed that he found the decision "shocking".
Commenting on Eloy's decision, who would soon join Slipknot, Derrick confessed to the initial shock backstage. "At the moment [when Eloy told us he was leaving], it was shocking because we had no idea [he had auditioned and gotten the spot]. And it was only a week, maybe a week and a half, before we even started the tour."
“I was literally packing my things to go to Brazil to start the rehearsals that we had all scheduled and agreed upon. So, yeah, it was a mess. It’s a mess when someone decides to leave, and the way it happened,” she revealed [transcription viaBlabbermouth].
Sepultura's vocalist stated that he understood Eloy's departure to Slipknot
Despite this, the singer understood the drummer's motivation for leaving the group, as he knew the importance of that opportunity for him. However, the only problem he mentioned was the way the situation unfolded.
“I’m happy for him. I understand the opportunity. I think we all understand. It was just the way everything actually unfolded that wasn’t ideal. These things happen. Now, looking back, it’s in the past. Honestly, it’s like everything worked out the way it should have. And, of course, it was very difficult to see that at the time. It seemed like, ‘Oh man. Here’s another big surprise coming out of nowhere. How are we going to survive this?’ But we’ve had so many of those throughout the band’s history,” he concluded.
