In a recent interview with France 24 [via Blabbermouth], Joe Elliott revealed that Def Leppard has enough recorded material to fill "almost two albums".
The band's most recent studio album is Diamond Star Halos, from 2022. According to the composer, the method used to record the last album during the COVID pandemic is something the band maintains to this day, prioritizing individual and remote recordings, or recordings done separately, even when everyone is together in the same studio.
“On our days off, we’d set up the drums in the basement of the theater [in Las Vegas], and Rick [Allen] would play drums like crazy on his days off, while they worked on the guitars in hotel rooms, that sort of thing. And I sing when I get home. So we already have about 17 or 18 songs written. Actually, we’re almost at the point of recording two albums. Now we’re still deciding which songs will go on the first album, so to speak. And then we’re thinking about a release in early 2027.”
In January, Def Leppard gave a preview of what's to come with the release of the single "Rejoice," intending to bring a positive and encouraging message for the current times. Later in the interview, Joe Elliott reinforced that the band has no interest in being a name that speaks about political issues.
“That’s what we are — an escapist band. We’re not here to preach. We’re not here to tell you who you should vote for. Other people can do that. We like to take you out of that mood and simply provide a good time. It’s not something meaningless — there’s a message there, and the message is that we need to share this moment together and make it something positive. And 'Rejoice' sums all that up very well,” he explained.
