"It doesn't make sense"
In an interview on The Vinyl Guide , Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillan denied the possibility of a reunion with the band's co-founder, Ritchie Blackmore.
Blackmore is responsible for creating many of their riffs, such as "Smoke On The Water," but he hasn't been on stage with the band since 1993, having been replaced by Steve Morse.
“You know, he’s been playing a different kind of music for almost 25 years. He got Rainbow together to play some shows. I have some friends and acquaintances who think Ritchie is a god, an absolute god, and even they know he’s not playing rock and roll like he used to. And I’m saying this in the most affectionate way possible, because he and I have been getting along well lately. (…) We’ve almost had dinner together a few times.”
Gillan concludes by saying that a reunion makes no sense, as all the current band members are getting along well and doing a great job together.
