An extremist group was arrested in Santa Catarina as part of an investigation into a Brazilian cell of an international neo-Nazi organization. As revealed in a report by Fantástico last Sunday, the 2nd, the group uses rock music as a form of propaganda for hate speech, and one of those arrested is the vocalist of a death metal band.
According to g1 , among those arrested in the operation carried out by the Civil Police of Santa Catarina last Thursday, the 29th, is Fabio Lentino . Besides being an audio operator at Rádio Gaúcha, part of the RBS Group, an affiliate of Globo in Rio Grande do Sul, the accused is the vocalist of the Brazilian death metal band The Ordher, which ceased operations in 2011.
Upon his arrest, Lentino confessed to "participating in meetings of Brazilians associated with the international [neo-Nazi] group and that he paid monthly dues to the group." Despite this, according to his defense attorney, he denies the accusations of being a member of the neo-Nazi group, and "this will be demonstrated during the legal proceedings."
In the report aired by Fantástico , Laureano Vieira Toscani, one of the leaders of the extremist group to which Lentino belonged, appears making Nazi salutes in front of a flag with a Celtic cross. The use of this symbol can be linked to hate groups, since it is especially used by British neo-Nazi groups. "The Celtic cross is the most popular and common symbol in modern neo-Nazism, and is as common among neo-Nazis as the swastika was among the Nazis," points out the website Reporting Radicalism .
In the two albums released by The Ordher, the band in which Fabio Lentino was the vocalist, it is possible to observe a symbol similar to the Celtic cross on the physical version of Weaponize (2005) and also on the group's second album, Kill The Betrayers (2009).
In a statement received by Wikimetal this Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 1:05 PM, friends of guitarist Fabiano Penna, former member and founder of The Ordher, who died in 2018, seven years after the band ceased operations, expressed their condolences.
The statement cited Penna's progressive stance and stated that the band ended its activities due to disagreements with Lentino. "After leaving the band, [Penna] completely erased Lentino from his life, to the point of not even talking about him anymore," explained Indy Lopes.
According to the statement, Fabio Lentino resumed activities at The Ordher in 2020, two years after the death of the founding member, something described as "disloyal and opportunistic" by Penna's friends.
*In the original article, published on February 4, 2023, Wikimetal published a quote from Fabiano Penna about the band in error. Friends of the musician came together to publish a statement explaining that he has no involvement with the accusations against Fabio Lentino. For this reason, we have decided to update this article with the additional information.
