"It's surreal to have a band like ours, making the music we make, and to be recognized at this level."
Last week , the Grammy Awards organization released the list of nominees for the 2019 edition, and it included big names in metal such as Bring Me The Horizon, Ghost, Halestorm , and Deafheaven .
In an interview with Pitchfork , Deafheaven vocalist George Clarke revealed he was surprised by the nomination: "It's surreal to have a band like ours, making the music we make, and to be recognized at this level."
The group was nominated for Best Metal Performance with the track “Honeycomb” from the album Ordinary Corrupt Human Love, released in July of this year. Also competing in the same category are Between the Buried and Me, High on Fire, Trivium , and Underoath .
During the interview, Clarke also spoke about the Grammy Awards highlighting more metal bands. In 2017, the awards featured Code Orange and Mastodon, who won an award in the same category that Deafheaven is nominated for.
“I think the fact that they are paying more attention [to metal] is a positive thing. I would like to see more aggressive musical styles being considered as well, or at least given more recognition.”
The Grammy Awards will take place on February 10th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
