Deaf contestant on Dancing With The Stars dances to The Sound Of Silence by Disturbed

Nyle sent a letter to the band

Nyle DiMarco, a deaf contestant on the American show Dancing With The Stars, sent a letter to Disturbed requesting permission to use the band's version of The Sound Of Silence . DiMarco wrote to the band saying that the song has unique importance for the deaf community.

Nyle wrote: “I’m in the semi-finals of Dancing With The Stars. I’m writing this letter to tell you how much your song Sound Of Silence means to me and the deaf community and that I would love to dance to it in the final. I feel it’s important that you know that deaf people have gone through a horrible history and we are still in the dark. The oppressive darkness in your song really resonated with me .” He continues: “We plan to show the terrible moments of my story through dance, with your powerful and touching music. We feel that with you, with your music, we will make/change history and help people understand our story, and unite people around the world to improve the lives of deaf people.”

Disturbed allowed the use and posted a message on their official Facebook page asking for votes for the show to help Nyle DiMarco and his partner Peta Murgatroyd advance in the reality show.
