The band stated that they are concerned about the safety of the fans who would be attending the show

Following the controversy surrounding the poster promoting the Dead Kennedys' tour in Brazil , the band canceled their shows in the country.

In a statement on their social media, the group claimed that the reason for the cancellation was a matter of safety. Read the statement below.

"Okay, everyone; the promoter in Brazil really didn't know how to handle things correctly. Without contacting us about the matter, stupid actions were taken that caused hate preachers to manifest themselves on all sides. Even so, we thought the poster looked pretty cool and we agreed with the idea; the consequences created a very dangerous situation for our fans who attend our shows. We never put our audience at risk, as that doesn't represent who we are.".

For this reason, we are unfortunately very sad to inform you that the band will no longer be able to play in Brazil this year; we feel this is truly the only way to keep people safe. We will donate a percentage of the advance payments we received to charity.”

The production company responsible for the tour, EV7, revealed that they were not officially contacted by the band to discuss the cancellation: “We were not officially informed by the band. They posted without notifying us.”.
