Nikki Sixx revealed that Mötley Crüe invited David Lee Roth of Van Halen to play with them and Def Leppard on The Stadium Tour, but David declined. Sixx recalled this moment during an interview with the Los Angeles Times . "I don't open for bands I've influenced," the bassist said he heard from Roth.

In October 2019, Roth reflected on Van Halen's influence on the bands that followed, telling The Mike & Carla Morning Show (via Blabbermouth ): “ Hair bands were imitations of Van Halen. Yes, that's true, and spandex was what they created as a visual thing.”

“I started with leather, with the same haircut that Bono , [ Bruce ] Springsteen , and the guys from Metallica had. A famous haircut – if I had the same haircut today, it would have its own Instagram. But Van Halen was a 70s band – we started in 1972 and our first two albums were in the 70s. We sold our first 10 million records before the end of the 70s. We spawned a lot of imitators who resorted to gimmicks and crap. It’s easier to imitate a haircut, a type of pants, and display bad behavior.”

The Stadium Tour , which also features shows by Poison and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts , was originally scheduled to take place last year, but ended up being postponed to 2021, and then to 2022, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
