David Kinkade: "Basically all the riffs on Soulfly's 'Enslaved' album are by Marc Rizzo."

The middle of "American Steel," the riff of "World Scum," of "Plata O Plomo," in short: It all came from the mind of Marc Rizzo.

In an interview with Rock Talks , drummer David Kinkade Soulfly 's album Enslaved Marc Rizzo 's participation , and his relationship with Max Cavalera .

“I thought Marc was going to leave Soulfly years ago – he’s a warrior – one of the best guitarists I’ve ever played with, probably the best. He carried his parts and Max’s on his shoulders on every tour we did.”

“When we were in the studio recording Enslaved , Max only spent 2 hours a day with us. The studio setup was curious: Zeuss [the album's producer] and I would arrive at 7 in the morning and listen to and tinker with everything we had recorded the previous day. Max would arrive around 11 or noon, and we would show him the songs we had been recording until, sometimes, 2 in the morning. We slept 4 or 5 hours a night.”

“Max would listen and say, ‘Dude, this is killer.’ We’d plug in the instruments, play a little. And then he’d leave.”

“Every night, we’d go to the control room, me, Marc, Tony [ Campos , bassist] and Zeuss. Marc would compose the main riffs for the songs. Like, he composed the middle part of “American Steel” all by himself; the main riff of “World Scum”; the main riff of “Plata O Plomo”, the intro that opens the album “Resistance”, in short: Basically, in all the songs, it’s Marc Rizzo pulling riffs from his mind, which is overflowing with riffs.”

In conclusion, David Kinkade comments that "it would be fair for the credits to state that all the songs were composed by Soulfly. Or by Marc Rizzo and Tony Campos, since Max's participation was so small."
