Before Roger Waters' harsh comments about David Gilmour, the Pink Floyd had given an interview to Rolling Stone where he mentioned the problems that were delaying the release of the remixed edition of Animals.
When asked about a possible re-release of the album, Gilmour replied: “Well, we did a lovely remix of Animals , but someone wanted to force an insert on it that I hadn’t approved, and someone is delaying the process and preventing it from being released.”
David's wife, Polly Samson , who was also present at the interview, came to her husband's defense and questioned why Pink Floyd wanted liner notes in an insert, since they had never had them before. "Because someone wants them there and that person had a journalist write some and I didn't approve them," Gilmour replied. "And he's getting a bit annoyed. You know how it is, poor boy."
Shortly before the interview was published, Roger Waters released the notes written by journalist Mark Blake and accused David Gilmour of censorship.
