David Gilmour , the legendary Pink Floyd , has released "Dark and Velvet Nights," a new single that will be included on his upcoming album, Luck and Strange . Co-written by Polly Samson , the track celebrates the couple's love through an energetic sound and is accompanied by a music video directed by Gavin Elder with animation by Levon Kvan .
In a statement, Gilmour shared details about the creative process behind the song. “The melody came about spontaneously one day. It was incredible to find that rhythm. Polly had given me a beautiful wedding anniversary poem, which was right next to me. So, I picked up the paper and started singing the verses to see how they would sound with the music. I showed it to Polly, and she replied, 'Beautiful, great, I just need to adjust a few things.' She added a few verses, and the song was ready — it was all very accidental.”
This is Gilmour's first full-length album in almost a decade and will be released on September 6th. Along with "Dark and Velvet Nights," the album includes the previously released singles "Between Two Points" and "The Piper's Call." A deluxe edition, featuring bonus tracks and exclusive photographs, is also available for pre-order on vinyl and CD.
In addition, to promote the new album, Gilmour plans a limited series of shows in the US, Europe and the UK starting in late September. Tickets are already on sale.
