During an interview with Rick Beato , published on his YouTube channel [ transcription by Loudersound ], David Gilmour stated that he never considered Pink Floyd a progressive rock band. According to the guitarist, the band wasn't concerned with discussing musical styles.

“We didn’t talk about style, and I never talked about progressive rock, or thought we were, whatever, progressive rock. For me, progressive rock is made by very, very serious musicians who really know what they’re doing.” However, despite this view from the guitarist himself, fans and critics frequently cite Pink Floyd among the great names of progressive rock, alongside bands like Yes, Genesis , King Crimson , Jethro Tull , and Rush . Drummer Nick Mason even accepted the “Prog God” award at the Progressive Music Awards in 2017, reinforcing the group's connection to the genre.
