Last Thursday, the 20th, David Gilmour started his auction of musical instruments, and the former Pink Floyd member has already broken a world record.
The Fender Stratocaster that the guitarist used on classics such as "Comfortably Numb," "Money," "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," and some of his solo albums like About Face, On An Island, Rattle That Lock , and the self-titled 1978 album, was sold for $3,975,000.
The instrument, better known as The Black Strat by fans of the musician, was modified over the years, but that didn't stop Christie's auction house from selling it for a record price.
Gilmour's favorite guitar – a 1969 D-35 CF Martin & Company Nazareth – sold for $1,000,000. It was used during the composition and pre-production of Dark Side of the Moon and for the recording of Obscured By Clouds.
David Gilmour has also launched a website that shows fans an exhibition of his guitars in virtual reality. On the platform, it's possible to navigate through the various rooms that house the instruments, as well as view details about each one. Click here to access the website.
