Megadeth bassist David Ellefson spoke about Kiko Loureiro's style and influences. Check out the full excerpt:
“I’ve observed musicians… As we all grew up together over the last three or even four decades, you see people who say, ‘I’m going to try playing guitar’ or ‘I’m going to venture into piano.’ And they’re actually guitarists trying to do something else. And you can hear that because their level on other instruments isn’t the same. You know, we spend most of our days honing our craft on the instrument we play. What Kiko has that’s different is that, perhaps because he grew up in Brazil, he had different influences growing up. You know, he didn’t just have American and British rock to listen to. He had Brazilian jazz, classical guitar music… A different influence, because of his Brazilian style. And you can tell that has an effect on his playing style. When Dave called me and said, ‘Dude, I think we have our new guitarist,’ and said he was keeping an eye on Kiko… I already knew Kiko and had played with him the previous year, in 2014, at some shows in South America, so it was easy to call him and…” "I invited him to work with us. But having played with him, especially in South America, I could feel his musicality and how connected he is to the culture there. And he's a great addition to Megadeth because we're a global band.".
