In an interview with Rocket Sports & Entertainment Network, Megadeth bassist David Ellefson discussed the band's internal politics, concluding that bands function better when they aren't a democracy. Check it out:
“Dave Mustaine is a very committed leader, and that’s one of the things I admire most about working with him over the years. I knew it the day I met him. You know, he has a lot of conviction in his vision, and he projects that grand vision, which is one of the things I enjoy most about working with him. I understand. I think, ‘I know what he means.’ And for me, that’s what being in a band is all about.”.
I think people often have this perception that bands are democracies, and the most successful bands usually aren't. You need a leader, just like in sports. There has to be a coach, management. And then you have your star striker, your great defender, etc. Someone has to receive orders, and the orders have to come from the top; it's no different in Rock n' Roll.
"In Megadeth we deliberate a lot, and we have a very clear intention in our focus, and I think that's why we're still here after so many years. We've survived many genre changes, musical changes over the years. Megadeth remains strong and steady.".
