Former Megadeth David Ellefson recalled his final years in the band, being fired by Dave Mustaine in May 2021 following his involvement in a sex scandal .

During an appearance on The Candide Mic With Fran Strine [via Blabbermouth ], the bassist stated that after his departure, he never spoke to the guitarist .

“Not a word. There’s no need. After what happened? I don’t need to be his friend anymore. I’ve moved on. The end of that friendship took too long to happen.”

“It really started back in 2018. There were some things I just didn’t like. I defended what I thought was right. And, of course, that didn’t go down very well. There was the issue of composing the new album [ The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead! ], which took five years to make. Every time I suggested ideas, they were cut. And it seemed to be something very personal.”

The musician said he "moved on," and "what happened" ended up being the ideal moment to "abolish everything" and make it all disappear.

He also stated that he did not expect to have returned to Megadeth in 2010 for the 20th anniversary celebration of Rust In Peace .

“People always talk about the 90s, the Rust In Peace , when we were truly a group. We worked together, we fought together, we won together. We climbed mountains and won battles together.”

However, over the years, this reality has changed considerably. As he himself admits, "it's not like that anymore. Now it's Dave's show, and that's how they want it."
