David Ellefson gave his first interview since the sexual scandal that resulted in his dismissal from Megadeth . Currently with a new band called The Lucid , which released its first album on October 15th , the bassist spoke about this new phase of his career.

In an interview with Aftershocks TV , Ellefson was asked if he feels freer now, but the musician believes he has always had artistic freedom in his career. “Look, [Megadeth] will always be my legacy, because I helped start it,” he stated (via Blabbermouth ). “I think probably for the first 20 years, until 2002 when the band officially broke up, everything was always for that single cause. And then, one day, unexpectedly, it ended. And I think my exploration of what life would be like began in 2002. I didn't want to start another band after that. In fact, I vowed never to form another one.”

Initially, Ellefson just wanted to make music for fun, without worrying about making money. “Having this time away to reinvent myself and simply fall in love with music has always been the most important thing for me,” he continued. “For me, I will always make music. To be honest, I don’t force anything.”

Finally answering the initial question, the bassist said he's doing well. “It’s fun to create something just for the sake of creating, not because it has to be motivated by anything else. So, I think I’m fine with where I am right now. To be honest, I’m perfectly content and happy with where I am now. I’m not going to lie – so everything is perfectly fine. I’m good,” he concluded.
