David Ellefson comments on Megadeth's new album: "We were amazed"

The album remains untitled and without a scheduled release date.

In a recent interview with Metal Rules , bassist David Ellefson Megadeth 's new album , stating that all the members have listened to the result of all the tracks so far and "were amazed".

Ellefson also assured that he was happy with the new lineup, which has included Brazilian Kiko Loureiro on guitar since 2015 and now has drummer Dirk Verbeuren for his first album with Megadeth. “It’s great to have guys in the band that you can put anything in front of them and they can play it. It elevates things to another level. We could have released [the album] as an instrumental CD and it would have been a great progressive metal record. It was a pleasure to listen to,” he commented.

The bassist also defended the fact that the new album took a while to be ready because "it's an important record" and needed time as a follow-up to the acclaimed Dystopia from 2016. "We went into this [project] being very hard on ourselves," he revealed. "In Megadeth, we don't want to repeat ourselves. We don't want to sound like anyone else and we're very strict with ourselves about not repeating a lyric, a riff, a melodic line or a structure from our past. That's where it reaches a critical level to keep demanding more from ourselves. We have 16 albums and there are only 12 notes on the scale [laughs]."

Recently, vocalist Dave Mustaine piqued fans' curiosity by stating that the album will include a cover song and that he has been "giving hints for a while ," but that he wouldn't reveal the surprise to anyone. The new Megadeth album still doesn't have a release date.
