Draiman comments on the nomination
Disturbed vocalist David Draiman commented in an interview with Billboard about his Grammy nomination for Best Rock Performance for the track "The Sound of Silence ." Also competing in the category are Alabama Shakes, Beyoncé with Jack White, David Bowie, and Twenty One Pilots.
"I have great respect for all the artists in this category, including and especially Jack White. Is it strange competing with Beyoncé? I think the reason for the question is because it is. It's definitely something that stands out – like, one of these things isn't like the others, you know? But what are you going to do?"
If you look at any other genre, you have so many categories and sub-categories. For Rock, that's all we have, so everything ends up being crammed into these four categories.
Is it diverse? Absolutely. It's far too diverse! When you can have, with all due respect, a Beyoncé and a Disturbed in the same category, something went wrong. I'm not trying to minimize her at all, we're just very different from each other.”.
