Lead singer David Draiman stated that he no longer feels comfortable expressing political opinions
David Draiman , lead singer of Disturbed , was known in the past for expressing his opinions on politics. In a new interview with Klos , he was asked if he still feels comfortable doing so.
“No,” he replied. “Look, the simplest way to get into a discussion is to give your opinion. [laughs] I had many years where I spoke my mind. And it’s there – it’s there for eternity. There’s nothing I can do about it. There’s nothing I want to do about it. You learn from what you’ve done in the past.”.
Draiman, who is promoting Disturbed's new album, Evolution , continued. “It’s funny. They did a story about me showing what I’d said in the past. Some things are seen out of context. But remembering saying those things made me think, ‘Oh my God. What were you doing? What were you saying?’”
He added: “If nothing else, I hope social media has taught everyone to be careful about what they put online. Because it will come back to haunt you. But in today’s environment – and there’s a lot about this on the album – people are addicted to being offended. It’s a war on social media. But it doesn’t make sense. I love being able to say that I chose not to participate in it.”
