At the end of September, David Coverdale turned 70. The Whitesnake has been on the road with the band for over four decades, but his plans for the near future are to rest.
Appetite For Distortion podcast , Coverdale confirmed that he intends to retire from touring after the last leg of Whitesnake's tour. The musician revealed that he planned to retire in 2020, at age 69, but his plans were delayed due to the pandemic (transcription via Blabbermouth ).
“It’s unbelievable for me to be preparing my farewell tour,” Coverdale said. “And make no mistake, this is the farewell tour. I’m 70 years old. Physically, it’s something very challenging for me to do most of the time. But it’s very important for me to reach a conclusion and express my appreciation and gratitude to all the people – the millions of people around the world – who have supported us for five decades, fifty years. It truly amazes me.”
Despite the farewell atmosphere, David Coverdale emphasized that he is the only one retiring from the stage, but that Whitesnake will continue working on new projects. According to the singer, he wrote songs during the pandemic and came up with some "beautiful new ideas."
“I have a lot of ideas for Whitesnake, so maybe we’ll have another project, I don’t know, without the pressure of having to go on tour. We have a solid fan base and I think the fans will buy the album with or without a tour,” said the musician. “Many of my colleagues are on their twentieth farewell tour. I don’t intend to do that.”
