It was announced this Friday, the 14th, that the music investment fund Round Hill Music has acquired the music catalog and all rights to David Coverdale . The selection includes his work as a solo artist, his repertoire with Whitesnake , and also the period when he was the vocalist for Deep Purple , from 1973 to 1976.
Some of Whitesnake's hits included in the deal are "Here I Go Again," "Is This Love," "Crying In The Rain," "Still Of The Night," and "Fool For Your Loving." "The Last Note Of Freedom," a song featured in the film Days of Thunder (1990) and co-written by Hans Zimmer and Billy Idol , is also included. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
David Coverdale expressed his satisfaction with the deal in a statement, saying he was "excited beyond words" to leave his catalog in the "exceptionally safe hands" of Round Hill Music. "I look forward to working with Josh Gruss and everyone at Round Hill to ensure the legacy of my existing work is preserved for future generations to enjoy," the musician commented.
Sales of complete music catalogs have become an attractive option for veteran musicians, widely recognized for their work, who prefer to have all their publications professionally managed by specialized groups, aiming to leave substantial sums of money for their heirs.
Recently, the catalogs of David Bowie and ZZ Top were sold for over $200 million each, and Bruce Springsteen made history as the biggest sale in the industry, worth US$500 million (approximately R$2.8 billion at the current exchange rate).
