Last Monday, May 23rd, the first teaser for the documentary Moonage Daydream , about David Bowie , was shown at the Cannes Film Festival .
The film is directed by Brett Morgen , who also directed Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck , and contains exclusive, never-before-seen material, including images, performances, and music, as well as narration by Bowie himself.
Moonage Daydream has been in production for 5 years and the director had full access to David Bowie's personal archives, including thousands of hours of rare performance recordings and master tapes. This is the first documentary officially authorized by Bowie's estate.
The film will be released by Neon in partnership with Universal Pictures Content Group , HBO Documentary Films , and IMAX . It is expected to arrive on HBO and HBO Max in the Northern Hemisphere spring of 2023 (autumn in Brazil).
