David Bowie would have turned 77 this Monday, January 8th, and, as a way to celebrate the musician's birthday, Parlophone Records announced the release of a special vinyl record with unreleased recordings.
Titled Waiting In The Sky (Before The Starman Came To Earth) , the album features a collection of recordings made by Bowie at Trident Studios in London on December 15, 1971. According to Rádio Rock , the release comprises most of the songs that would later form the iconic album The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars (1972).
The new Parlophone , however, features a different tracklist from the 1972 album, with four songs that were discarded from the final repertoire. Among them, the "lost" 1971 track, "Velvet Goldmine," which was only released in 1975 as a B-side to "Changes," and a re-recording of "Holy Holy" with the Spiders .
Waiting In The Sky (Before The Starman Came To Earth) will be released on April 20th, for Record Store Day in the United States, in a limited edition. For more information, visit David Bowie's official website .
