The singer's family did not authorize the production of the film.
David Bowie biopic has been confirmed, but the singer's family has denied any involvement or support for the project.
Titled Stardust , the film will tell the story of Bowie's first trip to the United States in 1971, an adventure that gave life to Ziggy Stardust . The film will be directed by Gabriel Range and will have a screenplay written by Christopher Bell , while the main role will be played by Johnny Flynn .
However, Bowie's family announced that they will not have any involvement in the film, and will likely not grant permission for the use of the singer's music.
“I’m not saying the movie won’t happen,” Duncan Jones , David Bowie’s son, said in a tweet, “I’m saying that the way things are going, this movie won’t have any of my dad’s music and I don’t imagine we’ll change our minds about that.”
The musician concludes by saying, "If you want to watch a movie without any of his music or without the blessing and permission of the family, that's your choice." In another tweet, Jones said he would love to see a biopic of his father written by Neil Gaiman and directed by Peter Ramsey .
Stardust will begin filming this year and will star Flynn as David Bowie and Jena Malone as Angie, the singer's first wife.
