David Bowie: HBO releases trailer for documentary about the musician's final years.

The Last Five Years explores her struggle with cancer.

HBO has released the trailer for the new David Bowie documentary. The film will be released on January 8th, the date the musician would have celebrated his 71st birthday.

David Bowie: The Last Five Years will explore the singer's last two albums, The Next Day and Black Star , and his play Lazarus through previously unreleased recordings, photos, and exclusive interviews.

In the video, we see Bowie's colleagues discussing the creativity that surrounded him before his death and his determination to continue writing and recording even after being diagnosed with cancer.

The trailer ends with Bowie's voice saying: “Always go a little deeper into the water, more than you think you can. When you feel your feet are barely touching the bottom, you'll be exactly where you need to be to create something extraordinary .

David Bowie: The Last Five Years was directed by Francis Whately and will feature appearances by Tony Visconti, Ivo Van Hove, Toni Basil, Earl Slick, Gail Ann Dorsey, Gerry Leonard, Carlos Alomar, Catherine Russell, Sterling Campbell, Zachary Alford, David Torn, Enda Walsh, Donny McCaslin, Maria Schneider, and Robert Fox.
