David Andersson, guitarist for Soilwork , has passed away at the age of 47. The news was announced by the band in a social media post.
In the statement, the band wrote: “We are deeply saddened today as we bring the terrible news of the passing of David Andersson. He was special and a brilliant man in many ways. He was our guitarist for over 10 years and had a huge impact on Soilwork’s musical journey.”
"Unfortunately, alcohol and mental illness took you away from us. We will miss you dearly and will continue to carry on the musical legacy you were a part of. Our deepest condolences to your family. We will be eternally grateful for the time we spent with you and all the good laughs we shared."
The group concluded with “Thank you Dr. Dave. See you on the other side” and asked fans to respect the privacy of Dave's family and friends.
Although the band's statement indicated that David's death was related to alcohol and some mental illness, it has not yet been officially disclosed what happened.
In addition to his work with Soilwork, Andersson was also part of The Night Flight Orchestra with his Soilwork colleague, vocalist Björn Strid. The band also used social media to mourn the tragic loss.
“Good evening, dear doctor. We all hope you have finally found peace. We will miss you dearly. You were special and a brilliant musician. Unfortunately, alcohol and mental illness took you away from us. This hurts deeply. Our deepest condolences go to David Andersson's family on this difficult day. His music will live on forever. Thank you for all the unforgettable moments together. See you on the other side.”
Andersson officially joined Soilwork in 2012 to replace Peter Wichers. Before becoming a member of Soilwork, Andersson had already been touring with the band since 2006.
The guitarist began his musical career at age 20, but after not achieving the success he sought, he gave up music and studied medicine. In 2006, the opportunity arose to tour with Soilwork, and since then his career has continued to grow. Despite his career with Soilwork, he never abandoned his work as a doctor. During the COVID-19 pandemic, David worked with patients suffering from the disease.
Rest in peace, David Andersson.
