In a recent interview conducted by Carmen Coronado for the Mexican website Monterrey Rock , Dave Mustaine discussed various topics. The Megadeth began by talking about the success of the 2022 The Sick, The Dying… and the Dead!
“Well, it was very well received. It was a success for us. We’ve had some successful albums before, but this was the most successful album of all when it comes to the whole world. In the past, we had albums that did well in some countries, but not in all. And this album has been very good in many places. I was very, very, very, very happy with the result of this album.”
The Sick, The Dying… and the Dead! reached number 3 on the Billboard 200 and topped the charts in its first week of sales (via Blabbermouth ). Previously, Megadeth had released Dystopia (2016), which earned a Grammy for "Best Metal Performance" for the album's title track. Regarding new projects, Mustaine revealed in February of this year that he intends to write a new album for the group.
Also in the interview, Dave spoke about the success and longevity of Megadeth, which, between lineup changes and 16 studio albums released, has already surpassed 40 years of existence:
“I think it’s about following your convictions. Being true to yourself and not being a petty idiot. [ Laughs ] There are a lot of musicians who become successful and they start believing in their own hype , that they’re really cool. And you know what? We’re all the same. That’s the end of the story. Period,” he said.
Dave also commented on the Latino audience that is a fan of Megadeth and on shows in Latin America: "I have to say, sometimes I leave shows with our Latino audience and I feel so moved, so emotional, that I have tears in my eyes."
Crush The World Tour and its stop in Brazil
With a new lineup since last year, following the departure of Brazilian guitarist Kiko Loureiro and the arrival of Teemu Mäntysaari , Megadeth's new tour begins in April. The tour already has dates scheduled until June of this year. Titled Crush The World Tour , the tour will visit countries in Latin America, such as Peru, Argentina, Mexico, and Brazil, as well as European countries like Italy, Spain, and Portugal.
In Brazil, the group performed in 2017, playing shows in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. In 2022, they were scheduled to perform at Rock In Rio , but cancelled hours after the announcement because they had booked a tour with the American group Five Finger Death Punch in the US, and the dates clashed with those of the Brazilian festival.
In August 2023, Dave Mustaine himself had already commented that Megadeth would be in Brazil in 2024. The official confirmation came in November of last year (via Cultura UOL ). The single show will take place on April 18th at Espaço Unimed, produced by Mercury Concerts.
