Dave Mustaine talks about his tough guy reputation

Vocalist attributes Metallica's breakup to..

In an interview with an American radio station, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine spoke about his reputation for being tough. Asked if his reputation bothers him, Mustaine commented:

“No, I don’t care. I find it kind of annoying sometimes when it’s the first time someone comes to talk to me. It’s always a shock when people talk… They know you and say, ‘Wow, you know, I’d heard you were an idiot,’ and you just look at them like, ‘uh-huh.’ But also… It reminds me of when I was a kid and I was at my first dance. I went up to a girl and asked her to dance, she said ‘no,’ and I walked away thinking, ‘screw you! You don’t know what you’re missing.’ And I thought about destroying her reputation at school. I’m kidding, of course, but that’s what we go through when we suffer some kind of rejection. We make the other person look awful. Evidence of that is when I broke up with Metallica. None of us wanted to tell the truth about what really happened; we wanted to make each other look awful. And I think that’s why it took us so long to get to the truth, which is, ‘hey, we still love each other very much.’ No.” "It was meant to be, but that doesn't mean we can't be friends."
