Mustaine calls for more Big Four shows

Team Rock asked Megadeth frontman (and former Metallica guitarist) Dave Mustaine to write a review of Metallica's new album, "Hardwired... To Self-Destruct." Read Mustaine's review in full:

“I’ve always been able to appreciate Metallica’s talent. Every band has its strengths and weaknesses. Personally, from everything I’ve heard so far, I think the new album is a good album. I’ve heard a lot of people say that Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo didn’t write anything on the album. But sometimes that’s inevitable. I imagine I would have liked to hear more of their stuff because I loved Infectious Grooves and Suicidal Tendencies and I always loved Kirk’s lines on Exodus, but that’s just how things work when you’re in the studio. The best songs get in. Everyone wants the best.”.

Regarding criticism of the production, it's a somewhat personal thing. One person's trash might be another's treasure. For example, I know a lot of people really like the way Rick Rubin produces. And while I respect Rick a lot, I know that what he does with bands like The Cult works very well, but what he does with metal bands doesn't necessarily sound as good. "Hardwired" definitely sounds different from, for example, "St. Anger," and that's great to me. You know, it took them eight years to make this album, and I'm happy for them that people are enjoying it. We're a small community, you know?

The fact that all four Big Four bands released great new albums within a 12-month period is really cool. Now the big question is whether the system will allow us to do more Big Four shows . We have a lot of great stuff, and we're preparing things for Asia and the United States for next year, but if something with the Big Four came up, I'd probably give in because it's so much more fun and it's such a big event that it takes priority over any other tour, so to speak. When fans get to witness four of the best metal bands of all time on the same stage, that's something to tell the grandchildren about.”

Last October 25th, Dave Mustaine took advantage of the Thanksgiving holiday to go to Twitter to suggest more Big Four concerts. Check it out here .
