Mustaine publishes letter on Facebook

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine posted a statement on his official Facebook page regarding the death of drummer Nick Menza , a member of the band's classic lineup. Menza died of a heart attack during a show in California last Saturday.

Check out Dave Mustaine's statement:

“I woke up this morning to a text message from my son with the news of Nick Menza's death. Shocked, devastated and saddened don't even begin to describe my feelings.

Originally a band technician, Nick quickly displayed so much talent and personality that it didn't take long for us to realize he belonged on stage with us, on drums. We invited Nick to join us in 1989. By that time, the band already had its first platinum album, which served to fuel the fire. We wanted to conquer the world – with so much of our lives and dreams still to come. As we navigated the seas of life and the music industry, our first album with Nick, “Rust In Peace”, and the subsequent albums “Countdown to Extinction” and “Youthanasia”, kept the momentum going. We parted ways after “Cryptic Writings”. We, like brothers, disagreed sometimes, but our bond was always strong.

Megadeth Albums, from worst to best.

As a musician, Nick had a powerful, unpredictable, and always fun jazz touch. And as great a drummer as he was, the time we spent with him as a person, bandmate, and friend was always even more fun. We talked about him returning to the band on several occasions, but for various reasons, it never happened. We kept in touch all the time; he had come to one of our shows recently, and he remained a great friend, a true professional, with a larger-than-life personality.

The Megadeth family looks out for each other, and expect to hear soon about an initiative to help Nick's children. We are all connected in this community, helping each other and our loved ones.

My deepest condolences,
Dave Mustaine
