In an interview with AXS, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine recalled one of the moments that contributed to guitarist Marty Friedman's departure from the band at the end of 1999. Mustaine linked the event to a guitar solo from the album Risk:
“One of the biggest reasons Marty Friedman left Megadeth was the Breadline solo. This was a song Marty really wanted to do the solo on. And he did, but when we got the song back from management they said, 'We don't like the solo.' Marty had already left, so I agreed to redo it. But I told them to let Marty know they didn't like the solo and wanted a new one, because I knew it would cause problems. So we were listening to songs in the studio and this song came on. Everyone was there, all excited. I was there, fat, ignorant, and happy, thinking they had told Marty it would be my solo and not his. Then the song came on and my solo played. Dave Ellefson and I looked at Marty and there were tears streaming down his face. I thought, 'My God, you didn't tell him!' I felt awful. These are the little things that ruin everything. People don't see that part. They think it's my fault. Of course, I had a part in it, but who forgot…” "Warn him?"
